Jorge Fernando Guevara Rodriguez, a 37-year-old Hispanic man, tragically lost his life on May 24, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio. He was the 49th homicide victim in Columbus that year. Rodriguez was fatally shot in the Hilltop neighborhood around 9 p.m. while on his way to the grocery store. When police arrived at the scene, Rodriguez was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Despite receiving medical care, he was pronounced dead at 9:26 p.m.
The investigation into Rodriguez's death led to the identification of a suspect, 15-year-old Kaytiana Terrell. According to police reports, Terrell allegedly fired multiple shots from a white SUV, striking Rodriguez as he walked down the street. Terrell turned herself in to the police shortly after the incident, and she now faces charges for murder and discharging a firearm near a prohibited premise. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, as Terrell did not provide any statements regarding why she committed the act.
Rodriguez's death has deeply affected his family and the community. His brother described him as a hardworking man and a loving father to two teenagers, aged 14 and 15. The community has expressed shock and sorrow over the senseless violence that took Rodriguez's life.
