Tejuan Jerome Hammons, a 40-year-old African American man from Columbus, Ohio, tragically died on December 3, 2020. He was shot around 11 p.m. inside an apartment on the 1700 block of Shanley Drive at the Clear Point Gardens apartments. Hammons was rushed to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred following a domestic dispute.
According to court records, Hammons had an active arrest warrant for violating a previous protection order and domestic violence charges. Earlier that day, he had allegedly shown up at the apartment of a woman who had obtained the protection order against him, dragged her outside, and thrown her against a window, causing her injuries. An 18-year-old male shot and killed Hammons during the altercation.
Columbus police have not released the name of the suspect involved in the shooting due to the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
Hammons' death marked the 152nd homicide in Columbus in 2020. The case remains under investigation, and authorities continue to seek information to bring justice for Tejuan Hammons.
