On a spring evening in Princess Anne, Maryland, the life of De’Shay Donique Cephas Sr., a 29-year-old male, was cut short. On May 19, 2024, officers responded to a call for a shooting on Pine Knoll Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered Cephas suffering from a gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Another individual, Tavion Crawford, was also present and required medical attention.
The Princess Anne Police Department launched an investigation into the fatal
shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the case. Ten days after the incident, on May 29, 2024, authorities arrested 25-year-old Jaquan Paris McCarter in Laurel, Delaware, with the assistance of the local police department. At the time, police stated that they were not searching for any other suspects in connection with the shooting.
Following his arrest, Jaquan Paris McCarter was charged with a number of serious offenses. These include second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and two counts of first-degree assault. He was also charged with felony possession of a firearm to commit a crime of violence. McCarter is currently awaiting trial for his alleged involvement in the death of De’Shay Cephas. Court records indicate that a motions hearing has been scheduled, with a jury trial expected to take place in December.
