Khalil Jamar Swayne, a 20-year-old African American male from Columbus, OH, tragically passed away on December 22, 2019. Khalil, known affectionately as "Fat Dad," was born on September 27, 1999, and was a beloved figure in his community. He was a graduate of Eastmoor Academy and attended Notre Dame College in Euclid, OH. Khalil was employed at MVM Moving Company and served as an Assistant Coach for the New Birth Warriors in Columbus. He was also a passionate Cleveland Browns fan who enjoyed watching games with his grandfather.

The circumstances surrounding Khalil's death were the result of a tragic accident. On the day of his death, Khalil was at his house on Maybury Road with friends, including Carlos M. Favours Jr. Favours, who was 24 years old at the time, had borrowed a gun from a friend because he feared for his life after his roommate was fatally shot earlier that month. Favours and his friends attempted to repair the gun in Khalil's basement, but while handling the gun, it accidentally discharged, hitting Khalil in the back. Despite immediate attempts at CPR and emergency medical care, Khalil was pronounced dead at Mount Carmel East hospital.

Carlos Favours Jr. was subsequently arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. He pleaded no contest to the charge and was sentenced to an indefinite prison term of 12 to 16 years and six months, with an additional three years for a firearm specification. Favours' probation for a previous charge was also revoked, resulting in an additional two years in prison. The court acknowledged that there was no evidence Favours intended to harm Khalil, and the incident was deemed a tragic accident.

Khalil's death deeply affected his family and friends, who remembered him as a charismatic, fun-loving individual who always brought joy to those around him. His memory continues to be cherished by his loved ones, who celebrate his life and the impact he had on their lives.
