Dalan Hardin Oulds-Wellman, a 21-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on July 26, 2020, in Columbus, Ohio. He was fatally shot outside the Story Lounge nightclub on East 5th Avenue around 2:12 AM. Oulds-Wellman and another victim were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were transported to Grant Medical Center, where Oulds-Wellman was pronounced dead at 3:37 PM.

The investigation into Oulds-Wellman's death was extensive, but it remained unsolved for several years. However, on January 24, 2024, authorities made a significant breakthrough. Gvon Thornton, a 29-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Thornton, along with two other suspects, Marquis Smith and Aaron Clark, were charged with multiple felony counts related to Oulds-Wellman's death. The charges included two counts of murder, one count of aggravated murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault. Smith remains at large, while Clark has also been taken into custody.

The case drew significant attention, and Central Ohio Crime Stoppers even offered a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Surveillance photos were published in 2022, which helped identify Thornton and Smith as possible suspects. The arrest of Thornton more than three years after the incident brought some measure of justice to Oulds-Wellman's family and friends, although the search for Smith continues.

Oulds-Wellman was remembered as a kind and selfless individual who always put others' needs before his own. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend who had a passion for music and basketball. His untimely death left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

The investigation into Oulds-Wellman's death and the subsequent arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring justice to victims of violent crimes. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community cooperation and the relentless pursuit of justice by authorities.
