The devastating incident occurred when Gavin's father, John Nelson, shot and killed his wife, Robin
Nelson, 35, and their three children—Gavin, Brianna , and Liam —before turning the gun on himself. The Elyria Police Department was called to the family's home for a wellness check after John failed to show up for work, prompting his boss to become concerned. Upon arrival, officers discovered all five family members dead inside the house.
Authorities have not disclosed a specific motive for the tragic murder-suicide. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots the night before the bodies were found, and there were recent arguments between John and Robin.
