Major Lee Harris III, a 17-year-old Black male from Columbus, OH, tragically lost his life on December 16, 2020. Known affectionately as Tre, Major was a beloved son, brother, and friend who excelled in academics and sports. He had aspirations of attending college in Florida and was employed at Dick's Sporting Goods in Easton Town Center. His untimely death was a result of a shooting incident on Deewood Loop West, where he was mortally wounded and later pronounced dead at St.
Ann's Hospital.
The incident occurred around 9:30 PM when Major and another individual, 18-year-old Deacon Smith, were shot. While Deacon survived his injuries, Major succumbed to his wounds at the hospital. The Columbus Police Department responded to the scene but have not identified any suspects in the case. The shooting is part of the 163rd homicide committed in Columbus in 2020.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved. The Columbus Police Department continues to seek information from the public and encourages anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. The community remembers Major as a bright young man with a promising future, and his family and friends continue to seek justice for his senseless death.
