On the night of August 25, 2014, Meshack Kinyanjui Mwangi, a 62-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, was found with a gunshot wound on Greenwich Street in the North Linden neighborhood. Police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:51 p.m. Mwangi was discovered in front of 3526 Greenwich Street and was quickly transported to the Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight, at around 12:56 a.m. on August 26, 2014.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing a gunshot and later saw a person running towards the nearby Northern Lights Shopping Center. Despite this, no suspect has been identified, and there are no clear motives for the shooting. Neighbors mentioned that one man, who lived nearby, attempted to perform CPR on Mwangi before paramedics arrived, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Mwangi, who was originally from Kenya, was a well-known community figure. The incident marked the 64th homicide in Columbus that year, and the authorities appealed for any information that might assist in solving the case. Despite the ongoing investigation by the Columbus Police Department, no significant leads have emerged.
