Jolonda Shaleace Murry, a 27-year-old Black woman from Youngstown, OH, tragically died on December 26, 2020, four days after being shot in a car on Halleck Street between Logan Avenue and Elm Street. She was born on March 11, 1993, in Warren, OH, and worked as a decorator at Swif 2 Events. Jolonda was also a member of the Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ and enjoyed hair, makeup, and fashion.
On the morning of December 22, 2020, Jolonda was shot around 5:25 a.m. while in a car.
She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she succumbed to her injuries four days later. The suspect, identified as Gregory Richardson, was already in the Mahoning County Jail on unrelated charges when he was arrested for Jolonda's murder. Richardson was charged with murder and other crimes, including aggravated robbery and attempted burglary. Detectives are still investigating the case and looking for a woman who was in the car at the time of the shooting but is not considered a suspect.
The death of Jolonda Murry marked the 28th homicide in Youngstown for the year 2020, making it one of the deadliest years in the city's recent history. The community continues to mourn her loss and remember her for her giving nature and aspirations to help others.
