He was born on July 30, 1968, in Detroit, Michigan, and was the son of Sam and Charlene McLaurin, Sr. His father had predeceased him, but his mother survived him in Lima, Ohio. Sam McLaurin Jr. left behind a loving family, including two sons, Jordan Schimpf and Taron McLaurin, a daughter named Santana Bean, four grandchildren, three brothers, and five sisters.
