Gregory Jamar Cooper, a 31-year-old African American man, tragically passed away on July 19, 2019, in Lima, Ohio. He was a correctional officer at the Marion Correctional Institution and was shot multiple times while off-duty in the 700 block of Franklin Street. Despite being rushed to Lima Memorial Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
