Marshawn Shawn Davis, an 18-year-old male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on February 18, 2022. He was fatally shot while standing inside the breezeway of the Roosters restaurant on East Dublin Granville Road, waiting for a table. The suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Jesus Castro, opened the door and shot Davis before fleeing the scene.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the shooting.
The incident was part of a series of violent events involving Castro. Witnesses and surveillance footage helped identify Castro as the shooter. Castro and Davis were former friends and high school classmates, and it was reported that Castro had threatened to kill Davis prior to the shooting. Castro was arrested a month after the shooting following a car crash on Interstate 270. He was also linked to a separate shooting on Cleveland Avenue that occurred on March 6, 2022.
In court, Castro pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and felonious assault. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 28 years. The tragic death of Marshawn Davis marked the 14th homicide in Columbus for the year 2022.
