Dailyn B. Ferguson was a 23-year-old entrepreneur and the owner of a high-end shoe store, DFKickz, in Lyndhurst, Ohio. A Black man, Dailyn was remembered by his mother, Tanisha Ferguson, as a special young man who turned his dreams into reality. He encouraged her to pursue her own business goals and taught her to stand firm in her convictions. His family said he was building something bigger than just a business.
On Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022, around 6:30 p.m., Dailyn was sitting in his
car in the parking lot of his store on Mayfield Road. A blue 2008 Volkswagen Jetta pulled into the lot, and an occupant opened fire, striking Dailyn at least once, including a shot to the head. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Warrensville Heights on May 1, then fled the scene. Dailyn was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He died from his injuries four days later, on May 12, 2022.
Lyndhurst police immediately began an investigation, calling the shooting a targeted attack. In August 2022, officers located the unoccupied stolen Jetta at an apartment complex in Cleveland. The car, which had no license plates, was processed for evidence by police and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The investigation eventually led police to identify four suspects who were teenagers at the time of the killing.
In September 2023, authorities announced charges against Jahseem Sales, then 18; Abu Hakim, 19; Lae’Juan Nasir Robinson, 19; and Reginald Bruce Jr., 19. All four were charged with aggravated murder with firearm specifications.
The legal proceedings moved forward for the four young men. For Dailyn’s family, the path to justice was a long journey. His mother drew strength from her faith and the memory of her son, stating, “Believe it or not, Dailyn is still with me. I walk with him every day and I know it.”
One of the cases reached its conclusion when Reginald Bruce Jr. was sentenced to serve 25 years to life in prison. As of the sentencing in July 2026, the cases against the other three defendants, Jahseem Sales, Abu Hakim, and Lae’Juan Robinson, were still pending. Dailyn’s family said they would continue to show up until every case is resolved.
