Carlton Gibbs-Green, a 26-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on April 25, 2014. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when Gibbs-Green was at his duplex on Mithoff Street. The shooting was the result of an altercation Gibbs-Green had earlier with the operator of an after-hours club on Whittier Street.
Raymond M. Johnson, a 35-year-old man who worked for the club owner, followed Gibbs-Green to his home.
Johnson was armed with a gun provided by his accomplice, Elewis L. Hobbs. Johnson fired nine rounds into the duplex, where several other people, including children, were sleeping. One of the bullets struck Gibbs-Green, who was pronounced dead about half an hour later at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Raymond Johnson was arrested and charged with murder. He later pleaded guilty to one count of murder and received a life sentence with no chance of parole for 15 years. Elewis Hobbs, who admitted to providing the gun, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter with a gun specification and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
