Jauton Jamal Lee Jr., a 23-year-old African American man from Warren, Ohio, tragically lost his life on July 21, 2022. He was fatally shot on West Market Street in Warren, leaving behind a daughter, a fiancée, and a large family. Lee was known for his love of football, working out, barbequing, and his unwavering support for Ohio State University.
The investigation into Lee's death led to the arrest of 20-year-old Dominic Harvey, a Warren resident, who was charged with aggravated murder,
aggravated attempted murder, tampering with evidence, and receiving stolen property. Harvey used a stolen AR-15 in the shooting, which also wounded another individual, Mitchell Powell. The case drew significant attention, and a large crowd attended a vigil to honor Lee's memory.
In December 2023, Harvey pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 50 to 55 years. During the court proceedings, Lee's mother, Tiana Jackson, delivered an emotional impact statement, expressing her grief and the lasting impact of her son's death on the family. Despite the tragedy, the family continues to remember Jauton Lee Jr. for the positive impact he had on their lives and the community.
