Lieutenant Ted Cephus Elmore, aged 51, was a dedicated officer with the Catawba County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina. On November 11, 1971, while making a routine traffic stop on Highway 64-70, he was shot by two suspects. These suspects had previously shot and wounded an Atlanta, Georgia, police officer. As Lieutenant Elmore exited his patrol car, he was fatally wounded. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries 11 years later on April 27, 1983.
