On January 17, 2024, 21-year-old Isaiah Johnson of Shelby, North Carolina, was fatally shot in Catawba County. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Dublin Drive in the Springdale community, west of Newton. Deputies from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found Johnson inside a car outside a residence, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
