On June 10, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Newton Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of South Brady Avenue and East A Street in downtown Newton, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 51-year-old Kelvin Jerome England inside a vehicle stopped at a stop sign, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the life-saving efforts of emergency responders, England was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 28-year-old Bricson Cliffton Lineberger of Newton, was apprehended at the scene and subsequently charged with felony murder. He was taken into custody and held without bond at the Catawba County Detention Center, with his first court appearance scheduled for June 11, 2024.
The circumstances leading to the shooting have not been fully disclosed by authorities. The incident occurred near a bank; however, officials have stated that the bank was not involved in the situation. The location is also in proximity to the Newton Recreation Center, where numerous children were present at the time, heightening community concern.
Kelvin England was a well-known resident of Hickory, North Carolina, and the owner and operator of England Brothers Auto Detailing, a business he dedicated 28 years to building. He was a graduate of Newton-Conover High School and Lenoir-Rhyne University. England is survived by his father, Kevin England; brother, Shun England; daughter, Carrielle Duke; grandson, Jayce Edmisten; nephew, Dacyn England; girlfriend, Heather Killian; and numerous other family members and friends.
