Arlene S. Mabe, a 53-year-old woman from Danbury, North Carolina, tragically lost her life on December 4, 2005. She was killed by her ex-boyfriend, Paul F. Kendrick, who then took his own life. The incident occurred at Mabe's mobile home, where Kendrick shot her upon entering the residence. Mabe's young granddaughter, who was present during the incident, hid in a bedroom and called for help.
Earlier that day, Mabe had reported to the sheriff's office that Kendrick had kicked in her car door, but she declined to press charges or give a report when a deputy arrived at her home. The authorities pieced together the last hour of Mabe's life after speaking with her granddaughter. Kendrick used a 9-mm semiautomatic handgun in the attack.
There were no arrests or suspects beyond Kendrick, as he died at the scene. No further litigations or investigations were conducted regarding Mabe's death, as it was determined to be a result of domestic violence.
Mabe is remembered by her family, including her sons, Timmy Gray and James Daniel Mabe, and her daughter, Rhonda Mabe, all of whom reside in Walnut Cove, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren and siblings.
