Wilma Petty, a 63-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on July 25, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was picking up her granddaughter from a birthday party when she was caught in crossfire and fatally shot. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on 28th Street off North Tryon Street. Police believe that Wilma was not the intended target, as she was hit by a stray bullet.
