Tayzhah Bush, a 20-year-old woman, tragically lost her life in a double shooting incident on August 26, 2018, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The shooting occurred inside an apartment on Fairwood Avenue at around 12:11 a.m. Tayzhah and another female were shot, with Tayzhah being pronounced dead at the scene while the other victim was transported to the hospital.
Following the incident, James Ratliff, a 27-year-old male, was identified as a suspect and arrested hours after the homicide.
He was charged with the murder of Tayzhah Bush. However, over three years later, in November 2021, the murder charge against James Ratliff was dismissed by prosecutors in Mecklenburg County. The District Attorney's Office decided not to retry the case, and there was no plea agreement made.
In addition to James Ratliff, another individual, Don'Travius Jetton Henderson, a 21-year-old male, was also charged in connection with Tayzhah Bush's murder. Henderson was arrested without incident and formally charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The investigation into Tayzhah Bush's death revealed that the shooting was a targeted attack, and detectives were able to locate a person of interest shortly after the incident. Despite the arrests and charges, the case remains a poignant reminder of the violence that claimed the life of a young woman in her prime.
