On January 12, 2008, two-year-old Jamir Whitaker, an African American toddler, was tragically killed in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM when shots were fired into his home on 2805 Pelham Road. Jamir was struck by a stray bullet and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
