Maurice Lyons, a 33-year-old male from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, tragically passed away on June 7, 2022, due to a gunshot wound. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night near the 1200 block of Westside Drive. When the police arrived at the scene, they found Maurice Lyons on the ground with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving measures, he was later pronounced dead at Nash UNC Health Care.
Following the incident, Patrick Brinkley, a 42-year-old man, was charged
with first-degree murder in connection with Maurice Lyons' death. Brinkley was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting into an occupied building. The police arrested Brinkley the day after the shooting, and he was given no bond. The investigation revealed that the shooting was believed to be a domestic-related incident.
The Rocky Mount Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, utilizing resources such as ShotSpotter, license plate readers, and the FUSUS Real-Time Intelligence Center to locate and arrest the suspect.
