In the quiet town of Hazen, Arkansas, a devastating scene unfolded on the evening of March 4, 2022, forever altering the lives of a local family. Forty-six-year-old Mirranda Turner-Munnerlyn, a female resident of nearby Carlisle, was found deceased outside a home on U.S. Highway 63. The discovery was made by Hazen police officers who were responding to a report of a shooting incident at approximately 9:39 p.m.
Tragically, Mirranda was not the only victim of the violence that shattered the night's peace. Alongside her, authorities found the bodies of her parents, 64-year-old James Turner and 62-year-old Amanda Turner. All three family members had been fatally shot. The investigation into the triple homicide was quickly turned over to the Arkansas State Police to be led by their Criminal Investigation Division.
As law enforcement began to piece together the events of that fatal evening, a suspect was quickly identified. While officers were en route to the residence, they received information about a person of interest traveling in a pickup truck along the same highway. Local police successfully located the vehicle and apprehended the driver, who was identified as Michael Munnerlyn, Mirranda's 50-year-old husband from Carlisle. He was taken into custody in connection with the deaths.
Special agents with the state police spent the ensuing hours collecting evidence from the crime scene and conducting interviews with individuals who knew the family and might have insight into the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The bodies of Mirranda and her parents were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for a more detailed examination to officially confirm their cause and manner of death. Following his arrest, Michael Munnerlyn was charged with murder.
