Shakeem Devonte Avent, an 18-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on April 13, 2011, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. On that fateful evening, Avent was driving a burgundy Cadillac when he was shot while approaching the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Lee Street. The gunshot caused him to lose control of his vehicle, leading to a collision with a white BMW and subsequently crashing into a brick wall.
