Dexter Xavier Johnson, a 33-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on November 12, 2006, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Dexter was shot multiple times while exiting the Grand Food Market located at 422 E. Grand Ave in Rocky Mount. The incident occurred at approximately 11:54 PM. Dexter was shot once in the stomach, three times in the back, and once in the lower arm.
Despite the efforts of EMS and Nash Health Care, he was pronounced dead at 1:24 AM on November 13, 2006.
Dexter's death remains an unsolved case. The suspect or suspects responsible for his murder have not been identified, and no arrests have been made. The case has been classified as a cold case, and a reward of up to $15,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for Dexter's murder. The community and law enforcement continue to seek justice for Dexter and closure for his family and friends.
Dexter's funeral service was held at Morning Star Church of Christ on Glendale Avenue in Rocky Mount. He was buried in the Gardens of Gethsemane in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Dexter's death has left a lasting impact on his community, and efforts to solve his case continue to this day.
