On December 24, 2023, Aaron Porter, a 34-year-old resident of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, was fatally shot at the intersection of North Washington Street and Tarboro Street. Officers from the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to reports of gunfire during the early morning hours and found Porter suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.
