Danielle Anita Hodges, a 27-year-old African American woman, was tragically found dead on the night of September 30, 2014, in Raleigh, North Carolina. The following day, police arrested and charged 25-year-old Brian Davis, her former boyfriend, with her murder. According to her family, Davis fatally shot Hodges during a drunken domestic dispute.
Roger Daye, Hodges' eldest brother, recounted that Davis put a gun to her head at point-blank range and pulled the trigger. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, but Davis' mother mentioned that her son had fallen into a depression after losing his job and would drink heavily, which drastically altered his behavior. Despite no longer being a couple, Hodges had maintained a close relationship with Davis' mother and was staying with her while starting a new job. On the night of the incident, Davis came to his mother's house upset, and Hodges was trying to console him when the situation turned fatal.
