Rashawn Maurice McInnis, a 33-year-old African American man from Laurinburg, North Carolina, was tragically shot and killed on December 6, 2015. The incident occurred early in the morning when McInnis and another man, Allan McGill, were sitting in a vehicle parked outside McInnis' house on Vance Street. A man approached the vehicle and began shooting, resulting in McInnis' death and injuries to McGill. A third person, Deidre Easterling, was also in the vehicle but was unharmed.
Authorities arrested Tamar Lepread Harris, a 39-year-old man from Laurinburg, a few hours after the shooting. Harris was charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, discharging a firearm into occupied property, discharging a firearm in the city limits, and injury to personal property. He was held in the Scotland County Jail without bail.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing. Laurinburg Police Chief Darwin Williams described the shooting as senseless and stated that they are still working to uncover the reason behind the attack.
