Diana Medelin Ibarra-Luna, a 22-year-old woman, tragically lost her life on August 13, 2016, in Raleigh, North Carolina. The incident occurred outside Mambo Sports Bar on New Hope Church Road. Diana Medelin Ibarra-Luna and Felipe Nerve Gonzalez Arrellano, also 22, were both shot at approximately 4:30 a.m. outside the bar. While Gonzalez Arrellano was treated and released from WakeMed, Diana Medelin Ibarra-Luna succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led to the
arrest of Jonathan Roman, a 19-year-old suspect. Roman was charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was taken to the Wake County Detention Center. Additionally, Josselyn Carolina Pineda, a 19-year-old woman, was charged with accessory before the fact in the shooting. Pineda was suspected of assisting Jonathan Roman in the attack.
The case garnered significant attention, and the Raleigh police continued to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation. The tragic death of Diana Medelin Ibarra-Luna highlighted the ongoing issue of violence in the area, as there had been a previous fatal shooting at the same bar in June 2014.
