Eric Eugene Huff, a 37-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on December 12, 2016, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Huff was one of two men shot in the area of Metting Road on that fateful Monday night. The Wilmington Police Department reported that officers were called to the 3600 block of Metting Road around 8:25 p.m. after the city’s automated gunfire detection systems registered gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, they found Huff with gunshot wounds.
He was subsequently taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center by EMS, where he was pronounced dead.
The other victim, Dequan Lionel Norman, a 23-year-old African American male, also suffered gunshot wounds and arrived at the hospital in critical condition. The police were uncertain if the shootings were connected. Huff's death marked the eighth shooting death and the 14th homicide investigation for the Wilmington Police Department in 2016. The homicide total for that year included an overdose death, the slaying of a pregnant woman whose fetus was also killed, a killing deemed self-defense, and a murder-suicide.
As of the latest available information, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with Huff's death. The investigation remains ongoing, and the Wilmington Police Department continues to seek information from the public to help solve the case.
