On August 19, 2024, at approximately 6:48 a.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to a report of suspicious circumstances in a dirt field near the intersection of Sultana Street and Escondido Avenue in Hesperia, California. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of 19-year-old Aaron Neal, who exhibited obvious signs of trauma. Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Specialized Investigations Division-Homicide Detail were called to the scene and determined
that Neal had been fatally shot.
Through their investigation, detectives identified two suspects known to Neal: 21-year-old Demetriel Richine Tyler and 20-year-old Elaina Nicole Norman, both residents of Hesperia. A search warrant was executed at Tyler's residence on the 9910 block of Topaz Avenue, where both suspects were apprehended without incident. They were subsequently booked into the High Desert Detention Center on charges of murder under California Penal Code 187.
At the time of their arrest, Tyler was held without bail, while Norman's bail was set at $2 million. Both were scheduled for arraignment on August 22, 2024, in Victorville Superior Court. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
