Carlos Gonzales, 60, a Hispanic male, was shot in the driveway of his Hesperia home on the evening of May 20, 2025. Deputies were called just before 6:45 p.m. to the 18800 block of Madrone Street after reports of a man with a gun. When first responders arrived, they found Gonzales gravely wounded outside the residence; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who had also been shot was rushed to a local hospital and later died, turning the incident into a double homicide.
Neighbors reported an initial volley of gunfire followed by a pause and more shots as investigators sealed off the block into the night.
Within a day, investigators identified a suspect and tracked him to Apple Valley. Deputies arrested 27-year-old Christian Armstrong, a Hesperia resident, on suspicion of killing Gonzales and the female victim. According to the Sheriff’s Department, homicide detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division assumed the case after the arrest, and Armstrong was taken into custody without incident. Authorities publicly linked him to the shooting on Madrone Street but did not release a motive.
