Christian Ruiz, a 43-year-old resident of Hesperia, California, tragically lost his life on January 7, 2021. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when deputies responded to a call at approximately 4:15 a.m. on the 11200 block of Third Avenue. Upon arrival, they found Ruiz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, Ruiz was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The investigation quickly identified Andrew Manuel Espinoza, a 29-year-old resident of San Bernardino, as the primary suspect in the shooting. Espinoza was located and arrested the following day at a Motel 6 near Interstate 215 and University Parkway. He was charged with murder and held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga with a bail set at $1 million. Espinoza was scheduled to be arraigned in court on the following Monday. The authorities also arrested Vanessa Loraine Amaya, another 29-year-old resident of Hesperia, on suspicion of being an accessory to murder. Amaya was found at the same location where the shooting occurred and was held without bail. She was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

The felony complaint filed against Espinoza detailed that he unlawfully and with malice aforethought murdered Christian Ruiz by discharging a firearm, causing great bodily injury and death. The complaint also charged Amaya with being an accessory after the fact, alleging that she harbored, concealed, and aided Espinoza with the intent to help him avoid arrest, trial, conviction, and punishment. The motive for the shooting remained under investigation, and authorities continued to seek information from the public to aid in their inquiries.

The tragic death of Christian Ruiz and the subsequent arrests of Espinoza and Amaya highlighted the swift response and thorough investigative efforts of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The case underscored the community's ongoing struggle with violent crime and the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement and residents to ensure justice and safety. The investigation remained active, with detectives working diligently to uncover all details surrounding the incident.
