In the early evening of August 7, 2026, tragedy struck at a busy intersection in Hesperia, California, claiming the life of 31-year-old Esteven Contreras. At approximately 6:50 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station were dispatched to the area of Hesperia Road and Yucca Street following reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Contreras in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders immediately began life-saving measures until medical personnel could take over. Despite their efforts, Esteven Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that a dark gray four-door Honda sedan at the intersection had what appeared to be numerous bullet holes. The suspect had already fled the scene in a vehicle before law enforcement arrived. The area was quickly secured with crime scene tape, and Hesperia Road was shut down in both directions as homicide detectives began their investigation, which continued through the night and into the next morning.
Through what authorities described as an extensive investigation, detectives identified 48-year-old Eduardo Bojorquez, a resident of Hesperia, as the suspect in the shooting. In a surprising turn of events, Bojorquez turned himself in at the Hesperia police station just hours after the investigation began. He was subsequently arrested on a charge of murder and taken into custody at the High Desert Detention Center. While an arrest has been made, the circumstances and motive leading up to the fatal shooting of Esteven Contreras remain under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Detail, and no information regarding a conviction or sentencing has been released.
