Daniel Duran Sr., a 46-year-old resident of Hesperia, California, was tragically shot and killed on July 1, 2020. The incident occurred in Fontana, where police officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at the 12000 block of Glenheather Drive around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Duran with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was immediately transported to Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Fontana, where he was pronounced dead at 3:17 p.m.
The San Bernardino County Coroner's Office confirmed his identity and the cause of death.
The investigation into Duran's death quickly led to the arrest of Pedro Rosales Valencia, a 29-year-old man from Whittier. Fontana Police Department detectives identified Valencia as the primary suspect after gathering evidence and conducting interviews. Valencia was apprehended on July 4, 2020, at the intersection of Slover and Serra avenues in Fontana. He was subsequently booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he was held on $1 million bail.
Valencia was charged with murder by the San Bernardino County District Attorney's office. He pleaded not guilty to the charges during his court appearance.
