On June 29, 2023, at approximately 6:21 p.m., Parveen Singh, a 27-year-old gas station clerk, was fatally shot during an armed robbery at a Mobil gas station on Main Street in Hesperia, California. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Singh unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect, identified as a 16-year-old male from Victorville, allegedly entered the store, committed the robbery, and fled the scene on foot. Law enforcement officers apprehended him approximately a block away from the gas station shortly after the incident. He was subsequently booked into the High Desert Juvenile Hall in Apple Valley, facing charges of murder and robbery.
Parveen Singh, originally from Punjab, India, had moved to the United States in 2017. He was well-regarded by customers and the local community, often described as friendly and respectful. A memorial was established outside the gas station, with patrons expressing their condolences and sharing fond memories of Singh.
