David McNair Jr., a 27-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on February 26, 2017, in Red Springs, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. at his residence on Blue Springs Road. Deputies from the Hoke County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found McNair with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation led to the arrest of 29-year-old Justin Smith, who was charged
with first-degree murder in connection with McNair's death. Smith, who resided on Calloway Road, was apprehended at his home later that morning. In addition to the murder charge, Smith faced charges for failure to appear in court, assault on a female, and communicating threats.
Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the shooting, and the case remains under investigation. The tragic loss of David McNair Jr. has left the community in mourning, as they seek answers and justice for his untimely death.
