On August 14, 2014, 40-year-old Anthony Charles Morgan, a Black male from Detroit, Michigan, was killed in a violent ambush on the city's west side. Known to friends and family as "Ant," Morgan had spent the evening at the Ace of Spades Gentlemen's Club. In the early morning hours, he left the venue accompanied by two other men, entering a cream-colored Lincoln MKZ to travel eastbound on West 8 Mile Road near Greenfield Road.
As the vehicle moved through the intersection, it was targeted
by unknown assailants who unleashed a barrage of gunfire. Reports indicate that approximately 43 shots were fired into the Lincoln MKZ, riddling the car with bullets in a "guerrilla-style" attack. Morgan sustained fatal injuries during the shooting and died that day. The incident was classified as a triple shooting; in addition to Morgan, a 30-year-old man named Dale Gray was also killed. A third male occupant in the vehicle survived the assault but sustained injuries.
Despite the severity of the attack and the high number of rounds discharged, the case remains classified as unsolved. Database records from cold case projects list the suspect information as unknown, and no specific arrests or charges have been publicly detailed in connection with the murders of Morgan and Gray. The investigation by the Detroit Police Department did not immediately yield a named perpetrator, and the motive for the ambush has not been definitively established in public reports. Community members later gathered at the Caver Funeral Home to pay their respects to Morgan.
