In the early hours of July 18, 2021, a dispute at a Coney Island restaurant on Joseph Campau Street in Detroit tragically escalated, claiming the life of 39-year-old Denard Arnell Richmond. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. The incident, which unfolded just before 3 a.m., shattered the morning's quiet and left a community in mourning.
An argument inside the eatery is believed to have been the catalyst for the fatal shooting.
In the wake of the violence, another individual was also injured. The investigation into Richmond's death led police to a suspect, James Dumas, a 39-year-old man from the nearby city of Southfield.
Dumas was subsequently arrested and faced a series of serious charges in connection with the death of Denard Richmond. These charges included one count of second-degree murder, one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of felony firearm. A judge set his bond at $100,000 cash/surety.
