A 56-year-old male, Michael Artis, was the victim of a fatal shooting on September 12, 2021, during a robbery in Detroit, Michigan. The incident, which took place in the afternoon in the parking lot of a liquor store on West Chicago Boulevard, was captured on a Project Green Light surveillance camera. Artis had reportedly stopped at the store to buy charcoal for a family cookout.
While in the parking lot, Artis was engaged in a conversation with someone he knew when an unknown male
approached him. The assailant, armed with a gun, shot Artis before stealing a chain from his neck. After the shooting, the gunman and two other suspects reportedly fled the scene in a gray Ford Escape, believed to be a 2017 to 2019 model with tinted rear windows.
The Detroit Police Department began a homicide investigation, seeking to identify the three male suspects involved. One of the suspects was described as the shooter, while another was believed to have been the driver of the Ford Escape. A third suspect was also seen fleeing with the group.
