On a tragic evening at Skinner Playfield in Detroit, 18-year-old Daviyon Shelmonson-Bey, a male, lost his life in a senseless act of violence. On June 27, 2025, a drive-by shooting shattered the peace of the park, also claiming the life of 4-year-old Samir Josiah Grubbs and injuring a 17-year-old. The incident unfolded around 6:20 p.m. near Denby High School, a place intended to be a safe haven for children and families.
