On a late summer evening in Detroit, the life of 21-year-old K’Von Thompson-Doze was tragically cut short. On August 13, 2023, around 11 p.m., an argument in an alleyway near the 5080 block of Fredro Street escalated into fatal violence. It was there that Thompson-Doze and another young man, 20-year-old Jamal Gibson, were shot. While Gibson was privately transported to a local hospital, succumbing to his injuries three days later, Thompson-Doze died at the scene.

The investigation into the double homicide led Detroit police to 22-year-old Deshaun Darvon Currie, also from Detroit. Authorities apprehended Currie on September 15, 2023. Following his arrest, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought a series of grave charges against him. These included two counts of felony murder and two counts of premeditated first-degree murder, reflecting the loss of both Thompson-Doze and Gibson.
In addition to the murder charges, Currie faced one count of lying to the police during the investigation of a violent crime and four counts of felony firearm. He was arraigned on September 18, 2023, and remanded to jail. The legal proceedings against him are ongoing, with a probable cause conference scheduled for early October 2023, to be followed by a preliminary examination.
