In the autumn of 2014, the body of 21-year-old Demetrius Griffin was discovered in the flooded basement of a vacant house on Detroit's west side. Authorities were led to the grim scene on a Monday afternoon in early November following a tip. The Detroit Police Underwater Recovery Team was tasked with the difficult recovery of Griffin's body from the several feet of water in the basement. An autopsy later confirmed that he had been fatally shot in the chest.
