Leroy Antonio Barnes, a 52-year-old African American man, was tragically killed on July 11, 2019, in Greenville, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when a Shotspotter alert detected gunfire in the 1700 block of South Pitt Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Barnes suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene.
