On December 30, 2023, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Greenville Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire near 1700 South Greene Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 14-year-old Zykere Deontae Langley collapsed near the intersection of Pitt and Brown Streets, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate life-saving efforts and transportation to ECU Health Medical Center, Langley succumbed to his injuries on December 31, 2023.
