On January 1, 2023, at approximately 4 a.m., Greenville Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at 2125 Silver Maple Lane, Apartment 206, in Greenville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds: 32-year-old Deshawn Lavert Roundtree, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and 21-year-old Kiaira Boomer, who was transported to ECU Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The initial investigation suggested that the shooting resulted from an altercation among acquaintances inside the residence. Detectives conducted interviews with several potential witnesses and canvassed the neighborhood to gather additional information. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 18-year-old Savion Isaiah Moore.
On January 3, 2023, authorities arrested Moore at his residence on Beasley Drive. He was charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and discharging a weapon into occupied property. Following his arrest, Moore was held at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $750,000 bond. The arrest was a collaborative effort involving the Greenville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, Emergency Response Team, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation's Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force.
The victim, Deshawn Lavert Roundtree, was a Greenville native born on November 28, 1990. He received his education at Agnes Fullilove and North Pitt High School in Bethel, North Carolina. Employed in the production department at Acculink, Roundtree was known for his love of rapping, singing, and riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of six and was a member of St. Johns Deliverance Church.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continued as authorities worked to piece together the events leading up to the incident. Community members were encouraged to provide any additional information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
