On May 6, 2024, 25-year-old Tyrel Emmit Minor was fatally shot in an apartment on Holden Drive in Greenville, North Carolina. Responding to reports of gunfire shortly after 5:00 p.m., police arrived to find Minor deceased from a gunshot wound. Present at the scene was his wife, 30-year-old Khadijah Edwards, who was promptly taken into custody.
Investigators believe the shooting resulted from a prior altercation between Minor and Edwards.
Edwards was charged with murder and held at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $2 million bond.
Earlier in the year, on January 21, 2024, Minor had been arrested during a traffic stop in Chocowinity, North Carolina. Deputies discovered two stolen firearms and a small amount of marijuana in his vehicle. He was charged with two counts of felony possession of a stolen firearm, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, and driving while his license was revoked. Minor was released on a $10,000 secured bond.
Minor's death adds to the concerning pattern of gun-related incidents in Greenville. The community continues to grapple with the implications of such violence, seeking ways to address and prevent further tragedies.
