Anthony James McCall, a 21-year-old male from Raleigh, NC, was tragically killed on July 16, 2019. McCall, along with his friend Brendan Robert Hurley, 23, went missing on July 17, 2019. The Raleigh Police Department began investigating their disappearance after Hurley's Dodge Charger was found off Raleigh View Road, near Garner Road, with a bullet hole in the driver's side of the windshield and blood inside.
The families of the victims reported them missing within hours, and an investigation commenced immediately.
Three days later, police announced that both men had been killed. The bodies of McCall and Hurley were discovered through investigative means, with Hurley's body located in Johnston County and McCall's body found in Nash County on July 26, 2019. The police have not released the causes of death or the motive behind the killings.
Two suspects, Ryan Craig Veach, 19, and James Daishawn Robinson, 21, both from Raleigh, were arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. A third suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile named Andrew Francis Carroll, was charged with acting as an accessory after the fact to murder. Carroll was accused of driving Hurley's car from a Zebulon location to a scrap metal recycling center on Garner Road in Raleigh, where police discovered it.
The families of the victims have expressed their gratitude to the detectives and patrol officers for their efforts in locating the bodies and bringing the suspects to justice. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have declined to comment further on the case. The community continues to mourn the loss of Anthony James McCall and Brendan Robert Hurley, remembering them for their youthfulness and the joy they brought to their loved ones.
