Octavion McClellan, a 17-year-old Black teenager, was tragically killed on the night of July 25, 2019, at an apartment complex on Barrington Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex, where Octavion was shot. He was subsequently transported to Atrium Health Carolina’s Medical Center, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The motive behind the shooting was an attempted robbery, as alleged by officials.
The investigation into Octavion's death led to the arrest of three individuals. Initially, Cortez Springs, a 19-year-old male, was identified as a suspect and warrants for his arrest were issued. Cortez was charged with murder and three counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. As the investigation progressed, two more individuals were arrested and charged in connection with the murder. Tionte Morrison, an 18-year-old male, and Keniya Guyton, a 17-year-old female, were both charged with murder and three counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The case garnered significant attention due to the violent nature of the crime and the young age of both the victim and the suspects. The arrests and charges brought some measure of justice for Octavion's family, but the loss of a young life left a lasting impact on the community. The legal proceedings and investigations continued as the authorities sought to ensure that those responsible for Octavion's death were held accountable for their actions.
